BCC Strategies and Tools for Targeted Interventions |
Shuru : FilmDVD, 35min, Bengali“Shuru” means “beginnings” in Bengali. This film was created as a part of a training tool for NGOs beginning work on HIV/AIDS. The story helps facilitators raise fundamental discussions on transmission, prevention, counselling & testing, treatment, adolescent RCH & HIV, HIV/AIDS/STI services; stigma, discrimination and human rights.(Partners : SAATHII, SPARSHA, 2008) |

Youth : Training KitThe HIV/AIDS Kit has been designed as a structured module for participatory workshops. The games and activities have been tested for over a year by trainers and peer educators in schools, colleges, youth clubs and slums. This methodology was used extensively in the YASI project.(2004) |

Adolescents and Youth: The Ask ProjectAskline, a free tele-counselling service for young people, was initiated by Thoughtshop Foundation in October 1999, at a time when no such service existed in the region.In 5 years, Askline logged over 10,000 calls on issues related to sexuality, HIV/AIDS and other adolescent problems. All calls were documented and analysed to plan different kinds of intervention strategies, including Ignited Minds, the It's My Life series of workshops and the HIV Kit.(1999-2005) |

Mass Media Campaigns |
World AIDS Day CampaignsMedia for the campaign included a 15 second TV spot, hoardings, stickers, a set of posters and press advertisements. The campaign won awards for best public service campaign from Srijan Samman, Kolkata in 2002. |
Family Health Awareness CampaignsThe brief for FHAC 2002 was to televise messages that would encourage people to approach health workers; for this a 30 second animated spot was produced. In 2003, similar messages were to be packaged for the radio. This time a folk song was produced in Hindi and Bengali. |

Hoarding Campaign : "Love Is..."The brief was to create an ongoing campaign to deliver 4 key HIV/AIDS messages targeting urban young people. The messages were packaged using bright and happy visuals of a caring young couple with captions like *Love is keeping your partner safe...*. Media used included Government owned hoardings, bus panels and leaflets.(Partner: WBSACS, 2000 - 04) |

Radio Series: Gyaner Alo ZindabadA 12-episode radio programme on HIV/AIDS awareness for young people. Conducted in Bengali this programme involved young people from different schools and institutions in a quiz on HIV/AIDS. Listeners could also call in with their queries on HIV/AIDS, some of which were aired on the programme.(Partner : DFID and WBSACS, 2001) |

Newspaper Series: Ask ColumnsAn interactive monthly feature called ASK (AIDS, Sex and Knowledge for young people) in a leading English newspaper answering young people's questions on HIV/AIDS and reproductive health. The popularity of the ASK columns led to its compilation into a publication called the ASK booklet, which is still popular among students.(Partner : The Statesman, March 1995- June 1996) |

Training of TrainersWe conduct TOTs for health workers and peer leaders to equip them to conduct participatory awareness programmes on HIV/AIDS. These are usually 3 day sessions that include modules on sexuality and counseling.(2003 Ongoing) |
